Apprenticeships A Guide for Learners Apprenticeships - What are they? An apprenticeship is a government funded Training & Development Programme which enables you to gain nationally recognised qualifications whilst getting real hands-on work experience. Apprenticeships are primarily aimed at school leavers & young people between the age of 16-18, but applications from young people up to the age of 24 may also be eligible for funded. It combines training & completion of a National Vocational Qualification in Administration, Customer Service, Information Communication Technology or Computer Maintenance, with a workplacement - which we call a 'Job Trial'. Training is also provided in Key Skills which includes: Communication, Application of Number, Information Technology, Working with others and Improving you own Learning. In fact, the majority of apprenticeships are How does the scheme work? Simply complete an application form and return it to us, we will then invite you to visit Harlow ITeC and discuss the Apprenticeships in more detail. If you then decide to become a new apprentice you will spend the first few weeks at ITeC, where you will start your training. During this time we will discuss with you your career aspirations and the type of position you would like to secure. Following your initial training we will arrange a Job Trial for you, which involves the type of work you would like to pursue in the longer term. Once on your Job Trial you will regularly return to Harlow ITeC to continue with training although most of your assessment will be caried out with your assessor in the workplace. Whilst completing your Job Trial, there is constant support from Harlow ITeC, with regular visits and opportunities to review your progress and discuss any questions you might have.
